COURSE OUTLINE FOR SCREENING TEST TECHNICIAN TRAINING
Screening Test Technician (STT) Course Outline
This course contains an Introduction and six (6) learning units [also called modules in the learning management system]. There is a quiz after each Unit. The Learner must pass the quiz with a score of 80% or better.
Bonus: This course also includes a 7th module outlining the requirements for the STT’s proficiency demonstration, along with free documentation forms for completing the Device Proficiency Training with your qualified Trainer.
Introduction and Definitions
Module 1: Introduction and Overview
The alcohol misuse rules.
Who is affected by the alcohol misuse rules.
The operating administrations of the Department of Transportation
The types of testing are required.
What conduct is prohibited by employees.
What the consequences are to employees for violating the rules.
What the training requirements are for: qualification training, refresher training, and error-correction training.
Module 2: ASD Methodology
Devices you may use for alcohol screening tests.
The different types of ASDs.
How an ASD measure alcohol concentration.
How results using an ASD are interpreted on both breath and saliva devices.
Module 3: Preparing for Testing, ASD Functional Requirements, Quality Assurance Plans
(QAPs) for ASDs, The Alcohol Testing Location, and Introduction To The ATF
The functional requirements that ASDs must meet.
The Quality Assurance Plan (QAP)
The requirements are for your alcohol testing location.
Introduction to the Alcohol Testing Form (ATF).
Module 4: Steps in Conducting a Screening Test, Using Disposable and Reusable ASD Devices, and Completing the Alcohol Testing Form (ATF)
Procedures used for conducting alcohol screening tests.
How to use a disposable ASD.
How to use a reusable ASD.
How to properly complete the ATF and document the test results.
Module 5: Obstacles to Completing a Test
How to properly handle and document test refusals and uncompleted tests.
The procedures if an employee cannot provide an adequate amount of breath (for breath testing).
The procedures for cancelled tests.
Module 6: Disclosure of Information and Keeping Records
Records that must be maintained.
How long you must keep certain records.
What the procedures are for maintaining and disclosing records on ASDs, STTs, and employee test results.
Module 7: Proficiency Training in Your Device (informational Section Only)
The Device Proficiency Training must be completed with a qualified Trainer on the specific device you will use for DOT testing. This online course does not include your device proficiency training; however, this module includes the details you need to know and documents you may want to use in your training.
