Department of Transportation Re-qualification Training Guidance Announced – Certified Training Solutions Can Help!

PUBLIC NOTICE:  On June 17, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy and Compliance (ODAPC) has issued extended guidance relating to re-qualification training requirements for certain service agents in the DOT drug and alcohol testing process. Service agents affected include breath alcohol technicians (BATs), screening test technicians (STTs), specimen collectors, medical review officers (MROs), and substance abuse professionals (SAPs).

In regards to the types of training and certifications that Certified Training Solutions offers – alcohol technician training (BAT and STT) and urine specimen collection training/certification for collectors – the DOT has made it clear that these testing technicians and collection personnel are still required to follow the training Rules under 49 CFR Part 40; however, if a technician is truly unable to complete their re-qualification training within five (5) years from the last date they completed their training, there may be an allowance for them to continue performing testing and collections through September 30, 2020.

It is important to note that this flexibility applies only if the BAT, STT, or Collector truly cannot find the resources to meet their re-qualification training requirement. For the convenience and safety of our customers, Certified Training Solutions offers fully-online and webcam training for drug and alcohol testing technicians. Hence, there is no reason to risk your health and safety travelling to a live class, since everything can be completed online using technology (internet connection, webcam, etc.).  We provide detailed instructions and a supply list of items needed for your hands-on (live/webcam) training, along with the class forms and documents for you to print at home or work.

In addition to our breath alcohol technician (BAT) training, DOT specimen collector training and certification, we offer online supervisor reasonable suspicion training, drug-free workplace training, Designated Employer Representative (DER) training, and more.

Plus, we have expanded our offerings of Screening Test Technician (STT) training in response to more customers turning to saliva alcohol testing in lieu of breath alcohol testing due to fears of the spreading the Coronavirus.

Our customers mean the world to us, and we are excited to continue to serve your staff’s needs through the safety of internet/online and web-based training.
